White Paper
"Debugging Embedded Software Using Virtual Platforms"

Access a CoWare Virtual Platform for evaluation and education using Software as a Service. All you need is your browser! Simply fill out the registration form and click on the return e-mail link. You will access the platform “in the clouds”!

About the Platform:
The Virtual Platform is a soft “emulator” of the ARM RealView Versatile Platform Baseboard for ARM926-EJS provided for educational purposes only. It includes a virtualized Ethernet Controller, UARTs, keyboard and mouse interfaces, and a frame-buffer console that allows the user to interact with the platform, just like you would with a real hardware board. Besides all the tools required to operate the virtual platform, the packages come with a complete Linux software stack, including kernel and file-system. A comprehensive user’s guide introduces the usage of virtual platforms for embedded software development.

The user will learn to debug and analyze embedded software along with the underlying hardware platform. The self-study tutorial style user’s guide introduces new debugging techniques, enabled by the unique control and visibility provided by virtual platforms. Even a Linux beginner will gain a lot of insight into the operation of a complex operating system such as Linux. Furthermore, the user will learn how to create custom debug and analysis solutions based on a flexible scripting framework.

The virtual platform also enables you to run Android, interface with GPS and evaluate power consumption! We invite you to explore all aspects of a virtual platform and experiment with the software stack.

Software as a Service
The virtual platform will run as a Software as a Service. No download or installation needed. After registering, you will receive an e-mail with a link to your virtual machine. You will have access to the virtual platform for 2 hours.
